Proposal of Tactile Inspection Conditions for Valid Defects Detection Focusing on Haptic Perception with Active Touch

چکیده
Tactile inspection is a task for detecting minute irregularities of several tens of micrometers and is one of the tasks performed by human senses. However, the detection of defects in tactile inspection has not been evaluated quantitatively. Therefore, this study aims to examine the factors that affect the detection of defects in tactile inspection by focusing on the haptic perception with active touch and to propose inspection conditions for the valid detection of defects based on the experimental results. Specifically, defect height, defect size, and the control force applied by the subject are used as the experimental factors, and their effects on the detection of defects are examined. Moreover, it was found that the detection rate increases with the increase of the defect features and that the strengths of the effect on the detection rate are in the order of defect height, defect size and control force of the subject. Based on the above, we proposed that tactile inspection is effective in detecting defects with heights greater than 15 μm and that the control force of approximately 7.0 N is suitable for defect detection.

Fluid–Structure Interaction-Based Biomechanical Perception Model for Tactile Sensing
The reproduced tactile sensation of haptic interfaces usually selectively reproduces a certain object attribute, such as the object's material reflected by vibration and its surface shape by a pneumatic nozzle array. Tactile biomechanics investigates the relation between responses to an external load stimulus and tactile perception and guides the design of haptic interface devices via a tactile...
متن کاملThe role of self-touch in somatosensory and body representation disorders after stroke.
Somatosensory impairments occur in about half of the cases of stroke. These impairments range from primary deficits in tactile detection and the perception of features, to higher order impairments in haptic object recognition and bodily experience. In this paper, we review the influence of active- and self-touch on somatosensory impairments after stroke. Studies have shown that self-touch impro...

The sense of touch is essential for locating, identifying, and grasping buried objects when vision-based approaches are limited. In this work, we introduce an approach for haptic perception within granular media that leverages three different tactile sensor modalities (vibration, internal fluid pressure, fingerpad deformation). Online dictionary learning was used to pretrain inputs to recurrent...

The MicroTactus is a family of instruments that we have designed to detect signals arising from the interaction of a tip with soft or hard objects and to magnify them for haptic and auditory reproduction. We constructed an enhanced arthroscopic surgical probe and tested it in detecting surface defects of a cartilage-like material. Elastomeric samples were cut at different depths and mixed with ...
